24 Questions About the AE24X EVO-R
Everything you need to know about the drift chassis, setup, compatibility and the design behind EVO-R.
1. How is the AE24X EVO-R different from the AE24X PRO?
The EVO-R is not simply a lower-priced version of the AE24X PRO. It is a further evolution of the AE24X platform.
From the overall chassis architecture and geometry points to the suspension layout, drivetrain and packaging, the EVO-R has been redesigned and optimized throughout.
By combining high-precision injection molding with engineering materials specifically tuned for chassis performance, we can achieve stable, efficient production while maintaining the rigidity, toughness and durability the chassis requires.
What we lowered is the barrier to professional RWD drifting — not the design standard of the chassis.
2. Is the EVO-R just a cheaper AE24X?
No.
From the beginning, the EVO-R was developed as a complete chassis platform for professional small-scale RWD drifting. Its lower price does not come from removing essential structures or setup capability.
High-precision injection molding allows the main structural components to maintain more consistent dimensions, assembly quality and material performance across production while improving manufacturing efficiency.
3. Is an injection-molded chassis strong and durable enough?
The EVO-R does not simply replace metal parts with ordinary plastic.
Its engineering materials are selected and tuned around the real operating demands of a 1/24 RWD drift chassis, balancing rigidity, toughness, impact resistance, low weight and long-term durability.
High-precision molding also helps maintain consistent dimensions and assembly across production batches, giving each EVO-R a stable performance foundation.
Key structural areas still use aluminum alloy, TC4 titanium alloy, brass and steel where those materials make mechanical sense.
As with any small-scale RC chassis, severe impacts, incorrect assembly or excessive force can still damage parts.
4. Why does a 1/24 chassis need more than 200 parts?
Small scale does not mean the mechanical structure should be simplified.
Within its compact dimensions, the EVO-R uses more than 200 components to form its suspension, steering, drivetrain, gearbox, linkages and chassis structure.
Together, these parts serve several core goals: chassis rigidity, low weight, weight distribution, dynamic response and setup freedom.
The EVO-R is a complete small-scale RWD drift platform — and the main chassis assembly is already completed at the factory.
5. I am new to 1/24 RWD drifting. Is the EVO-R a good place to start?
Yes.
If this is your first 1/24 RWD drift chassis, the factory pre-assembled EVO-R makes it easier to get started while still retaining a full range of suspension, steering and chassis-geometry adjustments.
You can begin by focusing on electronics installation, body selection and actual driving.
As you learn more about RWD drifting and chassis dynamics, you can gradually explore wheelbase, track width, camber, caster, front toe, Ackermann and other settings, then add OP parts according to what you actually want to change.
6. What are the EVO-R OP parts actually for?
EVO-R OP parts are not just cosmetic upgrades.
They are intended for drivers who want to further improve chassis performance, expand the tuning range, change structural rigidity or increase durability.
For example, selected aluminum upgrades can increase local rigidity, reduce chassis flex and provide a more direct, precise driving response.
However, OP parts are not required. The standard EVO-R is already a complete and capable drift chassis that can meet the needs of most drivers.
Some OP parts were released before the EVO-R because existing AE24X owners also wanted upgrade options, and selected parts remain compatible across the AE24X and EVO-R platforms.
7. Besides chassis, what products does ARK EDGE develop?
ARK EDGE develops more than chassis.
We continue to build products around the complete 1/24 RWD drifting experience.

8. Is the EVO-R better for beginners or experienced drivers?
Both.
The EVO-R is designed to reduce the entry barrier to professional RWD drifting without reducing the chassis' tuning depth.
New drivers can begin with a recommended baseline setup and learn the chassis through driving. Experienced drivers can continue exploring chassis geometry, steering settings, suspension behavior, electronics combinations and drivetrain choices.
9. Is the AE24X EVO-R RTR and ready to drive out of the box?
No.
The EVO-R is a factory pre-assembled RWD drift chassis, not a Ready-to-Run vehicle.
The main chassis is assembled, but you still need to select and install the motor, ESC, servo, gyro, receiver, battery, transmitter and body shell.
This also leaves more freedom to build the car around your own budget, driving style and preferred setup.
10. Does ARK EDGE plan to release an RTR?
Yes, it is part of our plan.
We know that for someone entering 1/24 RWD drifting for the first time, selecting electronics, installing them, setting everything up and completing the first car can create a learning curve.
The factory pre-assembled EVO-R already removes part of that complexity, and we are continuing to explore how to make the complete RWD drifting experience easier to access.
RTR is one of the directions in our future product roadmap.
We can also share one more thing: an ARK EDGE-designed polycarbonate body shell is coming soon.

11. What electronics do I need to complete an EVO-R? Can I use other brands?
To complete a running EVO-R, you will need:
- Gyro
- Servo
- ESC
- Motor
- Transmitter
- Receiver
- Battery
- Battery Charger
- Compatible Body Shell
The EVO-R follows an open electronics-compatibility approach. You are not required to use a full ARK EDGE electronics setup.
As long as the dimensions, specifications and mounting method are compatible, electronics from other brands can be used.
If you prefer ARK EDGE electronics, the current lineup includes the AG-4 Gyro and AS-5 Servo.
12. What motor and servo should I choose for the EVO-R?
The EVO-R supports:
- 130 Brushed Motors
- 1626 Brushless Motors
- Selected Outrunner Motors
For a typical 1/24 RWD drift build, we recommend starting with a 4500KV–6000KV brushless motor.
This range provides a practical starting point for balancing low-speed control, wheel speed and overall driving feel.
Final KV choice can be adjusted according to gear ratio, track size, tires and personal driving style.
13. What body shells fit the EVO-R? Can I use a MINI-Z body?
The EVO-R is designed primarily around 1/24-scale body shells.
Many MINI-Z bodies can also be adapted, but final compatibility depends on the specific body's wheelbase, width, wheel offset and wheel-arch clearance.
Some bodies may require adjustments to wheel offset, track width or body mounting position. With suitable dimensions, most 1/28-scale bodies can also be considered.

14. Why does the EVO-R have such a wide 90–118mm wheelbase range?
Because we want one chassis to support more build possibilities.
From an ultra-short 90mm wheelbase to 118mm long-wheelbase bodies, a wide range of builds can be created around the same EVO-R platform.
For experienced drivers, wheelbase is also an important setup variable that can influence weight distribution, steering rhythm, chassis rotation and overall dynamic behavior.
15. Why does the EVO-R offer up to approximately 86° of steering angle?
The EVO-R can achieve up to approximately 86° of steering angle, providing enough mechanical range for high-angle RWD drifting.
But the EVO-R is not designed around the idea that more steering angle is always better.
Front-end behavior is also shaped by Ackermann, camber, caster and front toe, all of which can be adjusted further.
16. What can actually be adjusted on the EVO-R?

As your driving experience grows, you can gradually understand how each adjustment changes the car's dynamic behavior.
17. Why was the EVO-R suspension redesigned?
The EVO-R uses redesigned front and rear suspension geometry with increased suspension travel.
The additional travel gives the chassis a more complete working range during corner entry, acceleration, deceleration and load transfer.
Front: Pushrod Double Wishbone Suspension
Rear: Independent Suspension
The pushrod layout also creates more usable suspension space while keeping the overall chassis profile low.
Our goal is not simply to make the shocks move. We want drivers to be able to see and feel how different setups change the car's dynamic behavior.
18. Why does the EVO-R use a compact gear drivetrain?
On a 1/24 chassis, every millimeter of space matters.
The EVO-R uses a redesigned compact gear drivetrain that keeps the transmission package small while achieving a maximum gear ratio of 1:10.31.
A wider gear-ratio range gives drivers more freedom to tune around different motors, track conditions and driving requirements.
The compact gearbox and drivetrain layout also free up space for suspension, electronics, wiring and the low-profile chassis architecture.
19. Why is the EVO-R chassis layout so low and compact?
Because in 1/24 RWD drifting, every millimeter needs to be used carefully.
Suspension, steering, drivetrain, electronics, battery and wiring all have to fit within a very limited chassis area.
The EVO-R therefore uses a low-profile, highly integrated architecture that brings the front suspension, steering system, electronics area, drivetrain and rear suspension together within a compact package.
This keeps the chassis low and compact while preserving more options for weight distribution, electronics installation and body fitment.
20. What is the black upper cover on the EVO-R for?
It is mainly designed to organize and conceal wiring.
While driving at our own drift track and observing how other drivers build their cars, we noticed a very practical issue with many small-scale RC builds: there are a lot of wires, but very little space.
Wires can easily become exposed, pile up or even interfere with moving chassis components.
That is why we added the black upper cover to the EVO-R. It helps organize and hide part of the wiring, keeps the electronics area cleaner and reduces the chance of wires interfering with mechanical parts.
21. What materials are used throughout the EVO-R?
The EVO-R uses a multi-material construction strategy.
Rather than simply using more metal, we select materials according to the load, weight and mechanical role of each area.
22. Why is the EVO-R factory pre-assembled?
Because the EVO-R contains more than 200 components.
For someone entering professional 1/24 RWD drifting for the first time, starting from a complete box of loose parts can mean a longer build process and a steeper learning curve.
That is why the main EVO-R chassis is factory pre-assembled.
New drivers can focus more on electronics installation, body selection, baseline setup and driving. Experienced drivers can skip the basic assembly stage and move more quickly into their own tuning process.
23. What is included with the EVO-R?

24. How far can the EVO-R grow with me as my driving improves?
